UPDATE: Waninkoko just posted the following message on his website (http://wii.waninkoko.info/):
Quote
2008/09/19 - Congratulations! I don't care about who leaked Backup-Loader but now it's OFFICIALLY an abandoned project. Enjoy it.

Therefore in respect for his work, we have removed the file from the server.

Waninkoko's Wii Backup Loader has been leaked to the general public. With these tools you can load backups on your Nintendo Wii without a modchip after patching the ISO file. Read below for more detailed instructions on how to use the tool.

You will need to obtain the common-key file and place it in the same directory as the backup-creator.exe. Please do not ask for this file here as we don't like handing out bans ;)

How to:
You patch the ISO with the .exe that came in the download.
Install the CIOS on your Wii
Install DVDX. Go to Advance and choose 249
Install Wii Loader
Burn the patched ISO with ImgBurn
Run the loader

So... will there be any commenting here -- test results, etc? Kinda feel obligated to ask, 'the source' is flooded and not a word here, but maybe there's a good reason or three? (hides test results)

*edit*
Since questions and comments have started, Im going to post my results:

As far as Im concerned, I got it to work for the most part (hang back and take five there slugger, its a beta and a leak for a reason).

NTSC Wii
NTSC We Ski.

Creation process completed successfully.
Burn process completed successfully.

cIOS installed ok.
DVD library uninstall and reinstallation to 249 ok.
Loader loads successfully.
Loader recognizes and identifies disc (We Ski ID:RSQE -- very much USA)
Debug info displays no errors.
Disc is loaded successfully.

Full audio (sounds fine), no video. Not saying black screen, its something the TV specifically doesn't recognize. ('mode not supported' on my TV [component out] which, well I'm just going to reiterate I did not start with a pal game or pal Wii.) Full Wiimote access. I can start the game, pause the game, home menu, reset the system successfully, everything from this no video-output environment. Resetting the wii from home menu reboots successfully with video. From the moment the game boots the only thing that seems to be missing is video.

*checks notes*... did I miss anything?

Errm... cIOS seems to uninstall successfully, system menu reverted to 3.1U... I actually havent performed an update in quite some time and am honestly not sure if this is the same menu I had before, though it likely is. *ducks from flying debris* I know I shoulda checked that first...

Waninkoko is very mad right now. Very very mad. And he should be. Contrary to what I had hoped, that things like this happen for wide testing efforts, things like this actually happen due to hasty irresponsible behavior and misplaced trust. He should be mad. If it wasn't supposed to be out yet, he should be livid. If not for sheer respect for the man, then at least for his work. The project has been compromised. Who wouldn't be absolutely furious? You know what, sensitivity of the work aside, who wouldn't be really pissed?

After reading the forum response over at 'the source', it seems to me that maybe they just don't get it.

Everyone who's generally pissed at Waninkoko...

He should be. What right do you have to be pissed at anyone you ungrateful individual? You have no right to be pissed as you are not the one who was wronged and no one owes you anything.

Everyone who thinks he screwed up:

I think the people he trusted who consider themselves "scene-responsible" screwed up more.

For everyone posting "no honor among thieves" gibberish:

Totally unnecessary and out of line. Who are you, why are you here, do you even know why you come to scenes or who makes it possible for scenes to exist, and if this is the extent of your constructive criticism and you can't code worth a damn to help build a different scene, please go somewhere else.

Everyone defending the leaker(s) while attacking the developer:

Ridiculousness. This has to be one of the most foolish acts of haste I've ever seen. A lot of people like to hit the forums and call everyone else an idiot. Now Waninkoko placed a simple trust that simple instructions and testing procedures could be carried out, and instead someone takes the six year old approach and decides its show-and-tell for the world? Wanin's expectation that "the scene" was supposed to operate a certain way in the interest of development was not unreasonable.

As a whole, the forum read like a poorly written soap opera, contained a wide spectrum of inappropriate reactions, and made me sick. A lot of people who as far as I can tell, deserve nothing for their nothing's worth of effort, seem to believe they actually do deserve something, and go to great lengths to defend that claim.

Madness
