Custom IOS37 released

Waninkoko has released a custom IOS revision for the Nintendo Wii. It currently has DVD read functionality for homebrew so, for example, those without a modchip can enjoy the benefits of being able to read roms from DVD in emulators. This custom IOS will also allow the backup of Wii Games to front SD but will not allow you to launch them as custom applications will need to be written for that purpose to work with this IOS. Could this be the birth of the first softmod solution? Only time will tell I guess.

[ DESCRIPTION ]:

- This is a Custom IOS, an IOS modified to add some new features
not available in the official IOS.

This IOS has been made to be used ONLY with homebrew software.

The Custom IOS installs as IOS249 and it does not modify any other
IOS so it is secure to install.

[ HOW TO INSTALL IT ]:

- Copy "IOS37-64-v2070.wad" file to the root of a SD card.
- Insert the SD card on your Wii.
- Run the installer.

[ HOW TO UNINSTALL ]:

- Run the uninstaller application with any method to load homebrew.

Dolphin Goes Open Source And Adds Wii Support!!

The first Wii emulator is here. ector & F|RES have released the source code for Dolphin which is an old Gamecube emulator which also now supports [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triforce_(arcade_system_board)#Triforce]Triforce[/url] (Arcade GD-Rom based system by SEGA, Nintendo and Namco) and Wii emulation to a small degree. Although the emulation is extremely limited at the moment, this is the first step we have seen towards emulation of your favourite console and it's open source to boot.

We hereby release the source code of Dolphin and most of its plugins under the GPL 2.0.

You can check out the code using Subversion (we recommend TortoiseSVN), from our new repository at Google Code. .

A few new features are included:

New OpenGL graphics plugin by zerofrog
Basic patch/cheat system (no search yet), support for decrypted Action Replay codes
Much faster JIT in 32-bit, slightly faster in 64-bit
Basic Wii support (plays a couple of intro movies, starts zelda, no working wiimote)
Some more I forgot about right now, see them as bonuses..

With the new gfx plugin, the code mostly builds and even runs a bit on Linux, but games don't work yet. There's now a cross platform wxWidgets GUI.

We'll release some new official builds soon, too.

Compatibility has not increased since the last release, but speed has in many cases.

Dolphin is currently not in a super polished state, but we hope that the community can help fix that, and maybe in the long run also add more features and compatibility. If anyone has a new feature or fix and wants SVN write access, just contact us and we'll add you to the project. Or you could just fork the whole thing, but that would probably be annoying

Title Uninstaller 0.1

red bird has released Title Uninstaller 0.1. This application is simply a WAD uninstaller which can uninstall channels from the Wii console without the need for the original WAD file.

I present/display the Title_Uninstaler to you v0.1. Basically we could say that it is a WAD_Uninstaller that does not need the original WAD. The operation is the following one:

It shows the titles installed in the Wii (only the normal channels, nothing of the system).
It allows to select a concrete title and to erase it.

The erasure process is identical to the one of the WAD_manager, but removing the information from the own Wii instead of to need an external WAD. The advantage is that he is more comfortable and does not require the original ones, that sometimes is not had, or we doubted if is the same version, etc...

Precautions:

The erasure process is the same that the one of the WAD_manager, reason why would not have to give problems. Flock everything what there is to erase, but to remember that they will always be plans of the installed thing (daily, etc...).
If you installed channels Paradox type, or other that use the same identifier that the HBC (' HAXX') they will appear to you all of them. The problem is that it is not possible to be known what is the authentic HBC.
If you erase the HBC deliberately, or by error, the program can give a CODE DUMP or let the hung Wii when trying return to the HBC. The erasure will have taken place correctly, but the program cannot return to which no longer exists. That only happens with the original HBC. The other channels, although have the same identifier that the HBC, would not have to give problems.

MPlayer Wii 0.02

rOn has released MPlayer Wii which is a native port of the MPlayer media player with support for front SD loading and Wiimote. It will play a wide selection of audio files and has some support for video files aswell although some work is still needed in this area.

It would seem that the race is on for a decent media player for the Wii.

* added svenp's libfat patches (better read speed on SD cards)
* added pause button (A button on the wiimote)
* disabled MPlayer's error/status text during video playback
* file list now displays 20 files instead of 10
* improved audio playback code

v0.01

* Initial release. Full of bugs, audio sync code is awful and will probably crash often. Also, there's room for lots of speed improvements.

DragonMedia Player 0.07 alpha

DragonMedia Player is an audio player created by DragonMinded who was the brain behind the awesome DSOrganize for the nintendo DS. Currently still in alpha this is showing some early promise as it does not run on Linux freeing up some valuable resources. Add in the nice skinnable interface and this could end up being another must have application.

This is a proof of concept of what is to come. As of now, it only does sequential play, and it only allows for file playback of the below listed formats. In the future, more sources will be added, as well as more sound codecs. Look at the theme file under default.xml, as well as the documentation for themes to understand how to customize the display. Be careful when skinning as some things do not have a fallback and will exit you back to the menu if done wrong. This will change in the future

To run, please use the HBC. Make sure you copy the dmp folder under /apps/ as it expects all the data to be there.

Homebrew Browser 0.2.0a

teknecal has released quite a handy application called Homebrew Browser. This application will allow you to browse a selection of Wii homebrew and download the file directly to your SD card using your Wii. You will also be provided with a meta.xml file and an icon.png customized for use with "The Homebrew Channel" saving you the hassle of setting it up yourself.

There are a couple of downfalls with the application currently. The first being that not all applications are available to download (possibly for legal reasons) and the main one is that you need to download a new version when new software is added. I would imagine that the second problem will probably be fixed soon and by any means this is certainly still a worthy application to have at your fingertips.

The Homebrew Browser allows you to download the latest homebrew applications and games all through your Wii. You don't need to take your SD card out. You don't even need a computer! You can also delete homebrew you no longer want.

No more dead links, no more extracting files, no more finding out that the homebrew application doesn't include an icon.png and meta.xml in the zip file!

A new version of the outstanding "The Homebrew Channel" was released by Hackmii Team a few weeks ago and it's about time we told you about it. If you havn't updated to this version yet then waste no time!

You can download the ELF version below or head over to the homepage to pick up the ISO files.

The Homebrew Channel beta 8 is out. This fixes most of the bugs that we found in beta 7, and incorporates many new libogc fixes.

you don't need to eject your memcards anymore
switched from IOS35 to IOS21, this makes the hbc usable on older firmwares
improved SD card loading performance (thanks, svpe!)
improved some translations
the IP label isn't cut off anymore
fixed argv support when loading SD apps

wiimote rumble support
installer overhaul, it now warns you if your System Menu is too new (future updates)
