A gamecube USB loader could be possible, and the wii homebrew scene is dieing.
This could be the one piece of homebrew that could spark it back to life!
Now I've done my research.
When we put a gamecube game in the wii and start it up, a thing called MIOS starts.
First, it disables all non-gamecube hardware, such as USB support and bluetooth.
then it slows down the CPU to 485MHz, just like the gamecube.
Boot2 then notices the slowed CPU, and starts up in gamecube mode.
So the wii is not emulating a gamecube, it becomes a gamecube.
But I think you already knew that.
What we need to do is create a custom MIOS that allows USB support.
And allow the gamecube game to be streamed over the USB.
That could be one way to do it.
What about a homebrew that does emulate the gamecube?
could we have something that could work, without touching the MIOS itself?
We could have the homebrew slow down the CPU, without restarting it so boot2 would notice,
and have the homebrew load the games off a WBFS formatted drive!
We don't need to activate the MIOS, because the wii is just a gamecube on steroids!
besides, the only important thing that MIOS does is slow down the CPU. disabling the USB and bluetooth would most likely not affect the game itself.
So what do you think?
If the scene put some effort into it, we could have something acceptable!
