Hi guys , im new to this half of the ds-scene sites usually over in the DS side , anyways i figured i would run my problem by you guys ( please bear in mind i got no clue what im talking about)

Ok so i decided to softmod the kids wii , i got hold of a pack from a site that took me through three steps listed below :

step 1 :

Select Data Management.

Select Channels and click SD up the top.

You should be presented with a "Load boot.dol/.elf" message, click OK.

In the HackMii installer go ahead and install Bootmii (To both IOS and Boot2 if possible).

Install the Homebrew Channel.

Then install DVDx.

Exit the HackMii installer.

Step 2 :

Press the "HOME" button on the Wii controller and choose BootMii.

After a few seconds you will be loaded into the Wad Manager.

You will be prompted to select which IOS to use, just leave this and press A.

Select SD Card.

You will see 4 .wad files, select each one (one at a time) and Uninstall them

After all 4 have been Uninstalled, exit Wad Manager an restart the Wii.

Step 3 :

Press the "HOME" button on the Wii controller and choose BootMii.

After a few seconds you will be loaded into the CIOSrev14 Installer.

When prompted which IOS to use, scroll to the left and select "Do not reload IOS"

Choose WAD install and press A.

Once finished restart the Wii and open the Homebrew Channel.

Open the Wad Manager from the Homebrew Channel (Not by pressing HOME and Bootmii)

Choose IOS IOS249 when it asks what IOS to use (It will should already be selected)

Choose SD Card and install "NeoR7.wad"

Exit out of Wad Manager.

You should now be done and have NEO gamma on your Wii's main channels page. (This loads copied games)

All this was the process for the 4.2 version now all this seemed to go well i did notice an error reading somefiles in step 3 but it didnt seem to matter.
Next day after work it seemed the kids had tried to play mariokart and since then it just didnt load the wii at all "black screen".

Frantic panic arcross the net found me : wii-system-menu-update-PAL-v290.iso
burnt , installed , wii came to life , FANTASTIC lol  ,

however my issue now is the wii freezes randomly after random periods of time , any ideas why and what the cure may be , hope u can help  cheers

Ok so it seems you downgraded your wii using the wii-system-menu-update-PAL-v290. Which system menu version are you showing (in the wii settings page at the top right)?

2 things which are extremely important:

1. What were the wad files that you used in step 2 which you uninstalled (I am guessing the ios stubs but no idea).

2. What was the error you got during the installation of cios.

Several other things to ask:

3. Random freezes; Please explain more, during playing original games or backups or USB HDD or what?

4. Have you backed up your NAND after step 1? Decent guides should always recommend this before sending you to uninstall IOS files as you can potentially brick your Wii and without a NAND backup you leave yourself with a major headache to get your Wii working again.

If you did not back up you NAND, head straight into Bootmii and get yourself a NAND backup before you answer my questions ;)
