DIOS-MIOS is dead, I think it was simply too difficult to allow USB-Read in Gamecube mode. Hardly any game worked so the project is closed. The Source was not released to the public, so nobody's going to pick it up.

There are a few ways to make GC backups working on your Wii.

1. FREE option - if you have a fairly old Wii, meaning a non D3-2 Drive Wii, you could burn GC games on normal DVD's. That option isn't available for you since your drive is broken.

2. Around 4 dollars - You can launch GC backups via SD-Boot. To do that, you need an SDGecko adapter. You can make one yourself from an old Gamecube Memory Card and an SD slot or buy one. Either the PEGA SD-Gecko or the WiiKey SD adapter. Even an old ActionReplay for the GameCube will work, as long as you have a method of stuffing an SD in the memory card slot. The USB and front SD slots are disabled in the Gamecube mode, however those devices aren't - that's how the magic happens. Not all games are compatible though, and sometimes you encounter glitches. Fortunatelly, SD-Boot is a Work In Progress project. The compatibility is already high, and soon we can expect another version of the loader.

3. WODE ModChip. It's the most compatible, but also the most invasive method, as it requires installing the Mod Chip.
