Hi all, I have a question, I have just installed a Wasabi DX chip, I also have NeoGamma_R7.wad software mod installed. I have tried Shrek Forever backup disc and it says wii update. If I do an update from backup disc, will it erase the Neogamma mod from my console.
I hope this makes sense.  confused

Never run updates from disks. You either need to patch the image or you can install preloader which can block updates.

You say you have Neogamma but then talk about updates, Neogamma is a loader that you load then run your games from in there instead. It should NOT be asking for an update running it from neogamma.

Thanks Retrohead, I have neogamma sw mod installed as well as Wasabi DX chip. So when load disk I take it the modchip is asking for sys update to be done. So run games from neogamma.

Hi Retrohead

Is there a thread on how to install preloader, sorry new to all this. Probably should not have installed chip, what was told best to run both (chip and sw mod) on wii. Thing is it is my sons and he aslo has orig games and not backups, so need to get the system working .

Many Thanks in advance.

PS should I just uninstall chip, or will it still ask for updates now.

Do you have the homebrew channel installed?

You can run games from the main menu if we can get preloader installed to block the updates otherwise you will have to run it from neogamma. Who installed the neogamma wad? You should have used a forwarder instead of a full channel so you can update neogamma easily by changing the dol file on your sd card.

Let me know if you have the HBC installed and we can go from there. Also let me know which system firmware you are on (4.1, 4.2, 4.3 etc).

Hi Retrohead

Thanks for this, I do have the homebrew channel installed and running system version 4.2e. I do not have a copy of the Neogamma sw as someone did this for me, this comes up as a channel on the main screen. I do not have this on a SD card.

Once again appreciate your help. Thanks

I hope this answers the questions.

Ok, to run preloader:

  1. Download preloader
  2. Open your SD card on your PC and go into the "apps" folder, if this does not exist then create it now
  3. In the "apps" folder, create a folder called "preloader"
  4. Put the "preloaderv0.29-jodi.dol" file into the preloader folder and name it "boot.dol"
  5. Put the hacks.ini file on the root of your SD card.
  6. Load the homebrew channel and launch preloader, this should install preloader for you

Preloader will now start whenever you turn your Wii on. You can change this so it autoboots the homebrew channel or your system menu if you don't want to see preloader every time you boot up your wii.

Check out the system menu hacks, you probably want to turn on all region free hacks and of course your update blocker. Save your settings then you should be good to go.

Make sure that you can launch the HBC from within prelaoder because this is a great way of recovering from any problems you may get with your Wii. If the HBC does not launch from preloader, you will need to update your HBC. Do this in the same way you installed preloader using the hackmii installer instead and of course a "hackmii" folder in the "apps" folder on your sd card.

If you want to upgrade your neogamma, I would suggest that you delete the channel you have already and install a Neogamma forwarder channel then install a neogamma.dol into your apps folder (so you can see it in the HBC). This is a much better option than using a fully fledged channel as you get features like online updates that are otherwise impossible.

Button 1 is the button to get past that warning screen.

If that does not work, it seems like your IOS36 is not trucha patched. Use trucha bug restorer and do the following:

note: TBR will reset to the HBC menu after each of these steps, try not to power off your Wii or exit from the HBC during this until you have preloader installed (just for safety really). You will be asked several times where to load the files from, choose NUS (Network update) if you have your Wii connected to your router or alternatively you will need some WAD files, read the TBR wiki if you want more information on those.

  1. Select IOS36, downgrade IOS15.
  2. Select IOS15, go to the IOS36 menu, install patched IOS36 (trucha + identify) to IOS36.
  3. Select IOS36, restore IOS15.

Once you have done this you should be fine to go ahead and install preloader. It seems like your friend did not really do much softmodding for you or your wii was updated via nintendos servers and it has deleted all your hacks. Preloader will stop this happening in future.

DO NOT UPDATE YOUR WII VIA THE ONLINE UPDATE OR FROM A GAME DISK
